A members’ only Rubicon forest tour is scheduled for Sun 22nd March following the running day on Saturday 21st. The tour will be led by led by expert guide Peter Evans who has researched and published extensively on the history of the area.

Participants will travel in a small convoy of vehicles, connected by walkie talkies that Peter Evans will use to provide commentary.

Participants are invited to bring a 4WD or SUV as the roads are unsealed and rough in places. If you do not have access to a suitable vehicle, don’t be put off – get in touch with us as a number of volunteers are offering space in their vehicles. (As at 31 Jan there are at least 8 seats available).

We’ve set a maximum ticket number so you are advised to book early and bookings close on Monday 9th March.

There will be a cost recovery admission fee of $20.50 which will provide for a picnic spread to share.

Provisional Timings

1030 Meet at Alexandra Timber Tramway carpark Station Street, Alexandra.
1100 Drive along steel tramway formation via Thornton. Radio commentary along
the way.
1130 Arrive Rubicon. Half-hour guided tour of tramway and settlement sites.
1200 Guided tour of Rubicon power station (if possible).
1230 Depart for Royston power station site via No.3 mill.
1300 Picnic lunch at Royston. No facilities available.
1400 Walk along tramway to Royston Power station / site of Skinner’s ‘old’ mill.
1430 Walk back to 15,000 Syphon Bridge.
1500 Depart for ‘new’ No.4 mill with brief stop at ‘old’ No.4 mill.
1530 Explore ‘new’ No.4 mill and tramway sites.
1630 Return via Royston Road.
1800 Group dinner (venue TBA).

About the tour

This full day guided tour will explore the Rubicon forest areas with a particular focus on tramway formations, hydro power stations and timber mills. The tour is restricted to members of the Alexandra Timber Tramway & Museum.

We will start and finish at Alexandra Station (the ATTM site). Instructions will be provided a week in advance to the email address you enter on the booking site.

NOTE that this is a collaborative event rather than an organised tour and participants will need to provide suitable transport (4WD/SUV) or travel with a volunteer driver from the museum.

No liability is accepted by ATTM nor is insurance cover provided for participants – you are joining a private trip.
